WHAT IS IDAHOANS FOR MIDWIVES?

Idahoans for Midwives (IFM) is a volunteer consumer organization dedicated in ensuring that
The Midwives' Model of Care is universally recognized as a legitimate and professional standard of care for pregnancy
and childbirth. Our purpose is to promote midwifery care in Idaho and to help parents achieve a safe and satisfying
birth experience with a midwife in homes, hospitals, and birht centers. IFM is committed to making the Midwives'
Model of Care available to all Idaho child-bearing women and their families.
OUR OBJECTIVES - To support the rights of parents to select the location, caregiver
and attendants of their choice for birth. - To inform public policy makers about the rights and birthing needs of Idaho families.
- To promote midwifery as a quality health care option. - To promote communication and cooperation between
midwives and other professionals and non-professional groups concerned with improved perinatal outcomes.
We believe that every woman should have the right to give birth in a safe, respectful, and family
centered atmosphere. We believe that her health care should be health promoting and cost effective.
Every member makes a difference
Join us in making this a reality for all Idaho families!

ABOUT THE MIDWIVES' MODEL OF CARE
The Midwives' Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.
This includes: - Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother
throughout the childbearing cycle. - Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal
care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support. - Minimizing technological
interventions. - Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention.
The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesearan section.
